A MUSLIM school in Kenwick has been raided by police and shut down by WA Education Minister Mark McGowan.

The school's head faces a stealing charge.

Mr McGowan said he had taken the extraordinary step of closing Muslim Ladies' College in Kenwick because of allegations,

including fraud and the use of unregistered teachers who were focusing mainly on religion, rather than the WA curriculum.

The school's acting director, Zubair Sayed, appeared in East Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with stealing.

THE Labor Government has moved quickly to scrap the Howard administration's controversial $1.1 billion

Human Services identity card.

The federal Government has shut down the Office of the Access Card and closed its website, honouring its

election promise to scrap the controversial program.

The $1.1 billion project - intended to provide every Australian with a unique health and welfare number and

biometric photo on a smartcard - opened a year ago, with two key tenders attracting strong bids from IT

and card supply companies keen to secure a role.

The project has languished since mid-year, after an all-party Senate committee rejected the draft enabling

legislation as wholly inadequate and lacking in protections against the card's use as a de facto identity card.

Trips to Lourdes to cut time spent in purgatory

I have no idea why Pope B16 thinks that a pilgrimage to Lourdes would get a reduction on the time

spent in "Purgatory", or what Bible he is using that refers to "Purgatory". Sounds like a bit of faking

to me.

Pope Benedict XVI is offering relief from purgatory to Roman Catholics who travel to Lourdes over the next year, the Vatican said yesterday.

Pilgrims to the shrine in south-west France will receive "plenary indulgences" from the Pontiff, which the Church says reduce the time spent

being "washed" of sin after death. The indulgences will be available from this weekend until Dec 8, 2008.

The Church teaches that people who do not go directly to heaven must spend time in purgatory, where they can be purified of residual sin.

It is the latest initiative to get more pilgrims to the shrine, famous for the reported healing properties of its water. In August the Vatican opened

an airline service offering pilgrims direct flights from Rome to Lourdes.

“trees” in its advertising. K-Mart is owned by Sears Holding Corporation.

A Liberty Counsel supporter asked K-Mart for an explanation of the company’s disregard for Christmas. Vincent V.,

a representative from Sears Holding Corporation, responded:

The reason for our use of holiday tree is due to the [sic] Sears Holding is a very diverse company, we do not want

to offend any of our associates, but also our valued customers. We decided to call them holiday trees because even

if Christians are the only religion that uses a Christmas tree we still do not want complaints from other customers

of different religions complaining about our use of Christmas.

What? Christmas is a federal holiday. Green, pointed, prickly trees we decorate in December are called “Christmas

trees” all around the world. In the process of trying to be “diverse” and to allegedly not offend their associates or

customers, Sears and K-Mart have offended their largest customer base – Christians and others who celebrate Christmas.

A number of media have today ran an entirely inaccurate story claiming that we have ordered staff to move Muslim

patients’ beds to face towards Mecca. This has stemmed from the above press release. We wanted to make sure

that you understand the correct position and this story is completely untrue.

Tracey McErlain-Burns, our chief nurse and director of patient experience, said: “Our statement has been wrongly interpreted.

The Muslim Moulana at Dewsbury and District Hospital is holding internal workshops for nurses to help develop their cultural

understanding. Nurses are not being removed from their duties to move patients’ beds towards Mecca. Moving patients’ beds

for prayer five times a day has not been suggested as part of this workshop and staff have not been ordered to do this.

“In the context of responding to requests from patients and families, particularly when faced with a very ill patient, it is entirely

reasonable that nurses consider all practical steps to meet a patient’s cultural or religious needs. This may include adjusting the

position of the bed, or escorting the patient to the chapel or faith centre.”

NURSES TOLD TO TURN MUSLIMS’ BEDS TO MECCA

OVERWORKED nurses have been ordered to stop all medical work five times every day to move Muslim

patients’ beds so they face towards Mecca.

The lengthy procedure, which also includes providing fresh bathing water, is creating turmoil among overstretched

staff on bustling NHS wards.

But despite the havoc, Mid- Yorkshire NHS Trust says the rule must be instigated whenever possible to ensure

Muslim patients have “a more comfortable stay in hospital”.

And a taxpayer-funded training programme for several hundred hospital staff has begun to ensure that all are

familiar with the workings of the Muslim faith.

Judiciary Head Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi called on Tuesday for establishment of an Islamic judiciary union

by Muslim states.

In his address to the opening session of the first meeting of judiciary heads of the Islamic states, the Ayatollah said, "Iran

believes that Islamic states have many points in common in legal and judiciary fields which could lead to further unity

among Muslim nations and states." "A massive wave of Islamism and reviving Islamic laws and religious identity is currently

spreading all over the world," Ayatollah Shahroudi said.

He expressed hope that the three-day meeting would lead in establishment of the union.

The meeting is attended by delegates from 57 Islamic states from Asia, Africa and Central Asia.

Ayatollah Shahroudi stressed that Islamic instructions were used as the basis for judiciary systems of the Muslim countries.

A SYDNEY council is set to reject a proposed Islamic college as tension about religious educational facilities escalates across the city.

Bankstown City Council will determine the development application for the 1200-student Al Amanah Islamic College at Bass Hill on

Tuesday night.

Nearly 2500 submissions were received from residents - 1829 against, 649 in support.

Council staff have recommended that the development - a primary and secondary school, a 30-place child-care centre with two residences

for caretakers, a reception and convention hall, a sporting hall and an indoor pool - be refused.

Planning director Gerry Beasley said council had relied on advice from the Roads and Traffic Authority and the Department of Education

and Training, and its own staff.

Thousands of residents have held meetings to stop Islamic schools being built across Sydney, including in Bass Hill. Last week two

pig heads were rammed onto metal stakes, with an Australian flag between them, on the site of a proposed school in Camden.

Put moderate clerics to work in jails: Islamic Council

The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils says the New South Wales Government should consider appointing

moderate Islamic clerics to fight religious extremism in jails.

The Government says some prisoners have been isolated from other inmates after using tactics from an Al Qaeda

training manual to set up a leadership group and threaten guards.

Federation president Ikebal Patel says the Government should do more to prevent extremist activity in jails.

"The State Correctional Services Authority should employ more Islamic chaplains in the jails because they can go

in and explain what the true form of Islam is, moderate Islam is, so that that is the Islam that is cultivated in the

jails," he said.
