Mohammed is my colleague social worker [integration civil servant] in Antwerp’s immigrant quarters. He looks at me gravely.

“That is just the way it is, and that is why I prefer not to work with a woman, that simply doesn’t work.” He is complaining

about another colleague, a Flemish woman who is his superior.

Mohammed does not think that this mentality about women and work is wrong. In fact, whoever questions this attitude is

wrong because it is his culture and belief, which is why he accepts it, he “understands” it and we, Flemings, do not.

Consequently we must accept it, until we “understand” as well.

Iran's hangmen work overtime to silence opposition

Stonings, hangings, floggings, purges. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad might claim that United Nations sanctions

can't hurt his country, but that is not how it feels for Iran's long-suffering population which now finds itself on the

receiving end of one of the most brutal purges witnessed since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

The most visible manifestation of the new oppression sweeping Iran has been the wave of public executions and

floggings carried out in Teheran and provincial capitals over recent weeks in a blatant attempt by the regime to

intimidate political opponents. The official government line is that the punishments are part of its "Plan to Enforce

Moral Behaviour".

It's the same kind of argument that was used immediately after Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini took control to purge

the country of its prosperous, secular middle class and secure his hold on power. Now Mr Ahmadinejad is adopting

similar tactics in a desperate attempt to keep his embattled regime in power.

Although Iran has one of the world's highest execution rates, until recently most of the sentences were carried out

within the confines of prisons such a Teheran's notorious Evin complex. But this month diplomats at the Japanese

and Australian embassies in the capital were alarmed to find the bodies of two convicted criminals hanging from

cranes stationed directly outside their office windows.

The location of the cranes, at a busy thoroughfare surrounded by office blocks, was chosen as much to remind

the diplomatic community that Mr Ahmadinejad's hardline regime was still very much in charge as to send a message

to ordinary citizens.

The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Commander Major-General Yahya Rahim-Safavi made the statement in the central city of Isfahan.

"The IRGC shoulders the responsibility to preserve the Islamic Revolution and its achievements, Safavi said.

of Satan and the Jewish state would soon fall apart, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

The agency quoted Ahmadinejad as he spoke at a religious conference and did not elaborate on what he meant by Satan.

Since the 1979 Islamic revolution, however, Iran has regularly referred to the United States as "the Great Satan."

"The Zionist regime is the standard bearer of invasion, occupation and Satan," he said, predicting Israel's eventual demise.

DOCTORS and health workers have been banned from eating lunch at their desks - in case it offends their Muslim colleagues.

Health chiefs believe the sight of food will upset Muslim workers when they are celebrating the religious festival Ramadan.

The lunch trolley is also to be wheeled out of bounds as the 30-day fast begins next month.

But staff and politicians branded the move political correctness gone mad and warned that it was a step too far.

Iran moves closer to its destiny as prophesied by Ezekiel in Ezekiel 38 & 39,

when it, with a coalition of like-minded nations, seeks to invade and destroy

Israel, but in turn is destroyed by God. As I suspected before the Coalition

of the Willing invaded Iraq & removed Saddam, Iran does intend to "liberate"

Jerusalem via Iraq, instead of going the long way around.

Ahmadinejad's Prophetic Vision

In the next stage, the nuclear umbrella is meant to serve as the basis

for a more activist foreign policy that will carry the banner of the

Islamic revolution. The religious vision that motivates Iran is a

platform for political and military activity, and this vision centers

on the goal of reestablishing the Islamic Caliphate, which will then

create the conditions for the appearance of the Mahdi, the Muslim

messiah. Ahmadinejad announced this explicitly in a speech to senior

religious figures (November 2006),9 and in an epistle to Christians

(December 19, 2006) in which he stated that "the era of distress,

suffering, and threats will come to an end on the Day of Days and

Jesus will return to the world with the appearance of the descendant

of the Holy Prophet of Islam, the Imam Mahdi [the Shiite messiah], and

he will remove any signs of oppression, suffering, and travail from

the world.

In the Shiite communities, Ahmadinejad is seen as the embodiment of

the Muslim leader who can advance the redemption. In the book

Ahmadinejad and the Coming World Revolution, Shadi Fakia makes a

direct link between Ahmadinejad and the Mahdi and says the present

president of Iran fits the description of the commander of the Mahdi's

forces who will liberate Jerusalem according to the Shiite faith.

Ahmadinejad is described as a resolute individual who is directly

guided by Allah and believes the "Jerusalem liberation army" will pass

through Iraq, similarly to the belief of Khomeini, who said that "the

way to Jerusalem leads through Karbala." Ahmadinejad's determination

to develop nuclear weapons is also interpreted as one of the signs of

the messianic redemption, since for him and his close associates,

confronting the international pressures to stop Iran from acquiring

nuclear technology is one of the ways to prepare the stage for the

Mahdi's appearance.

Islamic leader 'used public housing' for friend

The Islamic Council of New South Wales (ICNSW) is to be investigated for alleged breaches of public housing tenancy rules.

The ICNSW manages some emergency accommodation, which is set aside for refugees and others in need, on behalf of the NSW Department of Housing.

But there are claims one of the home units was temporarily rented out to a friend of ICNSW vice-president Ali Roude.

Mr Roude has been unavailable for comment.

ALGIERS: Iran's outspoken President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called on Israel to "go find somewhere else"

for its state and leave its territory for the creation of a Palestinian state, according to an interview published

yesterday. "Our support (for the Palestinian people) is unconditional. As for the Israelis, let them go find

somewhere else," Ahmadinejad told several Algerian newspapers ahead of an visit to Algiers that starts Monday.

Iran consistently refuses to recognize Israel's right to exist in the Middle East, and Ahmadinejad sparked outrage

abroad by stating after coming to power in 2005 that Israel should be "wiped from the map." He also provoked

a storm in June by saying a "countdown" had begun that would end with Lebanese and Palestinian militants

destroying Israel, and his government last year hosted a conference on the Holocaust questioning the German

Nazis genocide of the Jews during World War II.

WASHINGTON, Aug 3: The US State Department denounced on Friday a lawmaker’s suggestion to threaten an attack on Islamic

holy sites in order to deter a nuclear attack on American soil, saying the idea is ‘absolutely crazy’.

“Let me just say that it is absolutely outrageous and reprehensible for anyone to suggest attacks on holy sites -- whether they are

Muslim, Christian, Jewish or those of any other religion,” Tom Casey, a spokesman for the department, told reporters.Tom Tancredo,

a Republican presidential hopeful, was reported to have said that the best way he could think of to deter a nuclear terrorist attack on

the United States was to threaten to retaliate by bombing Islamic holy sites.

“If it is up to me, we are going to explain that an attack on this homeland of that nature would be followed by an attack on the holy

sites in Makkah and Medina,” Tancredo was quoted as saying on Tuesday in Iowa by a website.
